Bookmark Reading

Since September 2018 we have been involved with Bookmark Reading. Bookmark’s mission is for every child to learn to read and to have valuable support from adult volunteers within the local community. Bookmark source, recruit, train and provide ongoing support to all their volunteers so that they arrive at school ready to help children learn to read.

Rhyl were one of the first pilot schools and we are thrilled to be a part of such an exciting initiative. Each year, twelve children in Year 2 join the programme which is 12 weeks of weekly reading with a volunteer.

Volunteers ask children to bring their reading folder and spend 30 mins reading with the child in the library, answering questions and engaging in purposeful discussion. To end the session children can play reading games from the Bookmark Box with the volunteer.
