Admissions

Rhyl is a primary school for girls and boys between 5 and 11 years old, with a nursery class for children under 5 and a 2-year old provision which opened in 2021. Our school is part of Camden Local  Authority and our children are drawn almost exclusively from the local community. Camden has some of the very best primary schools in the country and these pages should tell you everything you need to know about them. More information can be found by clicking on the image below, which will direct you to Camden website’s Education page.

If you wish to apply for a place for your child at Rhyl, you will need to complete an application form, available from the school office or by clicking here. Before a child starts at our school an admission meeting will be arranged with our Executive Head Teacher or Head of School, and parents and children will have a tour of our school. The children must accompany the parent to the admission meeting. Proof of identity such as a passport of birth certificate for the child and proof of address for the parent must be available when the admission forms are returned to the school. Applications for Reception places must be made through Camden LA. If your child is eligible for a for a place in our 2 Year Old provision, you must make your application through Camden LA. To find out if you child is eligible for a place, please click here to be directed to the Camden website.

Completing the application form does not necessarily guarantee a place at the school for your child. In the event of over-subscription the following criteria will be applied:

  1. Camden residents with a Statement of Special Educational Needs under the 1981 Education act naming the school, or children resident in other LAs for whom the school is named in their statement with the agreement of Camden LA.
  2. Children whose brothers and sisters are now on the roll of the school.
  3. Children whom the Director of Education accepts have a particular medical condition or special social need, which the school is particularly able to meet.
  4. Children who live nearest the school, measured by the LA.

Parents of Nursery children should note that a separate application has to be made to the Admissions Department of Camden LA for a place in the Reception Year. A place in the Nursery does not guarantee a place in Reception.

Reception children are admitted in the September of the school year when they turn 5 years of age. Nursery children can be admitted the term following their 3rd birthday.

All 3 and 4 year olds are eligible for 15 hours (per week) Universal Funding provided by the government. This funding is available to the nursery the term following the child’s third birthday. Some parents may also be able to access the HMRC childcare scheme and claim an additional free 15 hours (30 hours in total). An online application form can be found here. HMRC will provide parents with an 11 digit code starting with ‘500’ if their claim is successful, which needs to be forwarded to the school.

If you are not eligible for the HMRC scheme outlined above, you may be eligible, as a Camden resident, for the ‘Camden Enhanced Offer’. This can also provide an additional 15 free hours of childcare (30 hours in total) if your family receive some forms of state support such as free school meals, tax credits or Universal Credit. To apply for the Camden Enhanced Offer (CEO) please go to the website here.
